ZYMOLKA WINS FIRST PRIZE

Anita Zymolka Amrhein was honored to be awarded a First Prize at the recent Stanwood Camano Arts Guild Spring Show. It is a painting of a bush rose called “Sally Holmes”. The jurors were Liana Bennett, Pamela Mummy and Ralph Allen.

CAA members are busy with summer projects, entertaining, and gardening, but still find time to do their art. Most local shows will include members of Camano Arts Association. Here are some of the highlights…

Wonderful show and a “must see” if your down in Seattle!

Candi Martin Baker’s original acrylic paintings are currently on display at Islander’s new second location in the Stanwood Cinema Plaza . Candi is introducing many new paintings fresh off of her easel in the last few months. She is excited to be working in a new medium and looks forward to starting a whole new series for her upcoming show in August. (see below)

One of the bigger local shows coming up is Stanwood Camano Art Guild’s Art by the Bay, July 10^th and 11th. Please note: This year’s show will be held at the Stanwood-Camano Community Fair Grounds. More information and a map is available at www.stanwoodcamanoarts.com CAA very own Molly LeMaster will be the featured artist and her watercolor “Gifts from the Sea” will appear on the Art by the Bay poster that should start appearing around the local area soon. A number of other CAA member artists are also part of the guild and will be presenting their artwork at this show.

THE SUMMER OF SMILES . . . Art & Wine
Dan Koffman will welcome the public to his popular art gallery and studio each weekend
Throughout the summer from noon to 5pm.
Koffman Studio & Gallery features his upbeat “Art with a Smile” that celebrates
people’s passions including Wine, Martinis, Coffee, Chocolate, Cats, Dogs, Sports and
Jazz . . . and many more!
Additionally, his wife Sandy will conduct scheduled tours of their beautiful wildlife
habitat gardens.
On two specific weekends, August 7th & 8th and September 3rd & 4th there will be special
wine tasting events at the nearby Dusty Cellars . . . Koffman suggests, “Visit Dusty
Cellars first . . . ‘cause after a couple of glasses of wine, I’m better than Picasso!”

We have two artist members appearing at the Bellevue Arts Museum Art Fair, in Bellevue Washington July 23rd through the 25^th. Lance Carleton, will display his recycled metal art, and Kathy Hutchinson’s fiber art will be in booth G-24, in the parking garage across from Nordstrom at Bellevue Square.

August will bring on magnificent weather and another large show in Everett. Fresh Paint will run August 21^st and 22^nd at Everett Marina Waterfront. This will be their 14^th annual festival of artists at work. Come see Candi Martin Baker and others perform their art and show their latest creations. DEBBI RHODES SCULPTURES TO WELCOME ALL TO CAMANO ISLAND

Debbi Rhodes’ metal sculpture designs depicting four local animal themes has been selected by committee and will be installed on the new SR532 bridge in July 2010. Announcement of the selection process, design features, and the financial support that made this all come together were described in detail in Stanwood Camano News‘ March 30th edition. Debbi’s designs will change as you drive by them. They are built in such a way that the sculptures silhouette fir trees for a few seconds in passing then again silhouette the images of the killer whale or orca, a salmon, a great blue heron and a bald eagle when viewed directly from the front or back. Each image has a serious and definite meaning to the artist and our area. The cleaver changing design feature is not a surprising idea when you know the artwork Debbi does. Her thoughtful creations always include her sense of humor and a bit of whimsy. Debbi’s recycled medal artwork has been available in local galleries, through art exhibitions, and on the CAA’s Mother’s Day Studio Tour for several years. You can spot her work in yards and homes throughout the Camano Island/Stanwood and surrounding area. Congratulations Debbi!

SECOND ANNUAL HARVEST OF ART SHOW ANNOUNCED

Camano Arts Association will hold their second annual art event Harvest of Art, on Saturday, September 25, and Sunday, September 26, 2010 between 10:00 AM-5:00 PM at Floyd Norgaard Cultural Center Public Hall, 102nd Ave N.W. Stanwood, WA.

This is a judged and juried show. All artists from Western Washington are invited to submit their work. The theme – Farms, Fields, and Foliage. Over $1,000 worth of awards will be presented to winning artists. Featuring beautiful works of art from over 40 artists, painters, and photographers displaying sculptures, glass, ceramic, mixed media, and jewelry. C.A.A. artists will also showcase their artwork. The show is open to the public and an ideal venue to meet the artists, discover special treasures or find those one of a kind gifts. So save the date on your calendar now!

Harvest of Art is part of the Harvest Jubilee which will take place at the same time. Taking its name and inspiration from Stanwood’s 1930’s era annual fall festival, the 2010 Harvest Jubilee highlights agriculture past and present, with an eye to preserving farms and farmland for future generations. Visitors can enjoy live music, farm tours, hay rides, exhibits, demonstrations, hands-on craft activities, fine art and so much more for the whole family. It’s a discovery of the agricultural richness of the northwest corner of Snohomish County and Camano Island where the farms are many, the people friendly, and the food fantastic. Admission to the art show is FREE.

2010 CAMANO ISLAND STUDIO TOUR

CAA’s Artists are busy now preparing for the 2010 Camano Island Studio Tour. The twelveth annual tour is scheduled for Mother’s Day weekend, May 7, 8, and 9, 2010. Approved plans include the addition of a second weekend. Many of the studios and galleries will also be open on May 15 and 16, 2010.

One of the marvelous tools on our website is our BLOG. On our BLOG, we’ll talk about anything and everything happening in the world of art on Camano Island and in Stanwood. AND… anything pertinent outside our borders as well. Feel free to SEND US your comments, observations, and announcements (if applicable, we will also include your announcement in the Local Art Calendar listings). Your participation will make this BLOG go, all we ask is you make it relevant, make it fun, make it useful. Helpful hints, courteous critique and (keep it clean) even relevant humor… we welcome it. 2010 TOUR OFFERS A SECOND WEEKEND : We’re trying something new for the Tour this year. Anyone planning to “do” the Tour will want to know about the Encore Weekend, May 15th and 16th, where all studios and galleries will again be open and welcome you to visit and enjoy the art. There’s just no excuses. Make the tour part of your Mother’s Day plans or come a week later, but come!
Want to stay overnight? Check the list of “Local accommodations” and make you overnight plans. Staying overnight means you can take it a little slower and see more of the Tour. Be a Tour marketer… encourage anyone you know to take advantage of our second weekend. An opportunity to see every bit of the tour and find out that “Art lives on Camano”.
