The Mother’s Day Studio Tour is the heart and soul of the CAA. It is the event around which the organization was founded the the highlight of the year for members.

The first Studio Tour took place in 1998 with a handful of artists pooling their resources to invite people to come enjoy art on Camano Island over Mother’s Day weekend. Today, more than 4,000 people come to the event every year from all corners of the state, the region and the world.

The Camano Island Studio Tour celebrates THE major arts community in the Northwest. An intimate and unique experience, the tour has something for everyone, from first-time buyers to lifelong collectors. It is one of the premier art events with a unique concentration of talented professional artists all occupying a small Island that is both easy to navigate and beautiful. Nowhere else can art collectors and appreciators visit such diverse artists in their studios in such a short time.

More than 60 artists take place in the tour now, but each must be juried in to the event. In other words, it isn’t enough to simply call yourself an artist. Other artists and art experts must evaluate your work and you must meet a certain standard in order to be included in the Tour. This ensures that the integrity of the tour remains in tact and that it will always be a showcase of quality, professional art.

In addition to being the largest event for the artists on Camano Island, it is also the biggest tourist event of the year. With more than 4,000 visitors attending each year, the Studio Tour is not only a boon for local artists, it is a huge help for all local businesses that benefit from the influx of traffic. From restaurants and grocery stores to hotels and gas stations, everyone in the community benefits from the Studio Tour.

In fact, the success has been so huge that in 2010 the CAA expanded the event to include both Mother’s Day Weekend and the following weekend. Even in tough economic times, the Camano Studio Tour is a tradition that continues to attract growing crowds
looking for a unique experience and a memorable adventure.
